Everton confirm no bids have been made for Fellaini or Baines

07 August 2013 - 18:23

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is aware of the interest of Man Utd in star duo Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini, but the Spanish coach has told reporters that no bid has been made for either player so far this summer.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • United are known to be looking for a new midfielder this summer, with Cesc Fabregas originally the primary target. However, their bid to sign the Barcelona playmaker has failed and now United have decided to make a bid for Everton player Marouane Fellaini instead.

But Everton's coach Roberto Martinez has ruled out a rapid exit for the Toffees' star duo.

"There are no bids," said Martinez.

"When you read that someone is interested in someone, it doesn't mean there is a bid on the table.

"Marouane has been working really hard. Leighton Baines has been working really hard for the team and that's all that matters.

"Headlines in the media happen at this time of the season unfortunately but it won't distract me from the work we have to do. I'm not bothered at all.

"It is speculation in the media and you'll never stop that. I've said from day one as a manager you only concentrate on working hard.

"I don't mind having my players grabbing headlines. That's a good story because it means they've been doing well and performing well.

"I'm only concentrating on having as strong a squad as possible for the start of the season. That's all my concern is."
