Liverpool tracking Benfica starlet Ola John

09 August 2013 - 14:04

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Benfica's winger Ola John. The Liberian born Dutch international, who previously played for FC Twente in his adopted home country, has attracted the likes of AC Milan and Inter Milan with an impressive showing for his current club.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The Reds' manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping to bring in a new winger before the transfer window closes on August 31st and many had tipped Christian Atsu to be Liverpool's next signing. However, at the very last minute, Atsu's club Porto decided to keep the Ghanaian international.

Rodgers then instructed his scouts to prepare a full report on Ola John of Benfica. Since arriving at the Portuguese side in 2012, John has been in and out of the first team on a regular basis, with some impressive showings at club level persuading the Netherlands' national team to call up the 5 foot 11 winger.

Benfica will not sell John on the cheap, reports indicate that the club are looking for near to 5.5 million Euros.
