Spurs look to fine Gareth Bale

28 August 2013 - 22:52

Tottenham Hotspurs are looking to fine their want-away Welsh midfield star Gareth Bale for missing two training sessions without permission. Bale, who's subject of a world record £86m bid from Real Madrid, was given a break in Spain in order to go and discuss terms with Los Merengues, but hasn't reported to training when he came back.

  • Manager Andre Villas-Boas is said to be frustrated with the way Real Madrid and Bale are handling the transfer, with chairman Daniel Levy also said to be growing frustrated and could pull the plug on the transfer.

Under Professional Footballers' Association rules, Bale can only be fined two weeks worth of wages, which in this case would be about £160,000.

Bale hasn't featured for Spurs this season and hasn't been named in any squad, and hasn't featured for Wales either, though he has been called up by Wales boss Chris Coleman for the country's upcoming World Cup qualifying ties against Macedonia and Serbia.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have announced that they've completed the signing of Argentinean youngster Erik Lamela from Italian side AS Roma for a reported fee of £30m, taking their total transfer spending this summer to £92m.
