Germany striker Gomez admits turning down Real Madrid offer

05 September 2013 - 16:18

Fiorentina target man Mario Gomez has revealed that La Liga giants Real Madrid were interested in his signature this summer but he chose to join the Serie A side ahead of them.

  • Chelsea to battle Leeds for Zion Suzuki?
  • Man Utd still favourites to sign Portuguese star
  • The 28 year old Germany international has been prolific for Bayern Munchen during his four year stay at the Allianz Arena but was asked to look for a new club this summer by new manager Pep Guardiola.

However, Gomez revealed that even though Real's interest was flattering he chose to join Fiorentina because he thought that was the right club for him.

"It's true that Carlo Ancelotti wanted to sign me for Madrid," he told German sports magazine Kicker.

"I was honoured by their interest, because my entire family consists of Real Madrid fans.

"However, after holding talks with Fiorentina about their plans for the future, I knew joining Fiorentina was the right choice for me."
