Jurgen Klopp: 'Real Madrid made a wrong decision to sell Mesut Özil to Arsenal'

06 September 2013 - 14:56

Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Real Madrid should not have sold their star midfielder Mesut Özil to Arsenal on the transfer deadline day.

 • Chelsea star to miss FA Cup final with hamstring injury
 • Chelsea to move for Bendegúz Kovács?
 • Klopp suggested that perhaps Real president Florentino Perez needed the cash out of the transfer of the talented German playmaker after their capture of Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur for a club record fee of £84m.

He told Sky Sports : "I do not care which player will play against us in the UEFA Champions League
" But Mesut is a football grenade. No one really knows why he was sold. Maybe Real Madrid needed the money?

"Real Madrid chairman Florentino Perez wanted to have Gareth Bale, of course, and he paid £84m.

"Perez once even bought Hochtief [a German construction company]. Maybe he just doesn't know in the mornings what he is about to do with his money when the evening comes."

Özil signed for the Gunners on a five year deal for a club record fee of £42.5m.
