Mata happy to stay at Chelsea despite competition for places

14 September 2013 - 08:11

Chelsea's attacking midfielder Juan Mata will stay at Stamford Bridge despite talk of a move away, with the Spanish international instead telling reporters that increased competition for places at the club is better for the long term future of the team.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • Recent signings of the likes of Marco van Ginkel, Andre Schurrle and Willian has left some doubt over the long term future of Mata at the Blues.

But Mata is confident that he will be in the first team this weekend and that the new arrivals are no cause for concern: "I think it is very good for the club, for the squad and for the manager.

"I think they are really good. De Bruyne, Schurrle, Willian: they are all quality young players. Each one has his different position and different skills, but I think all of them can give us a lot and I think it is better to have a more complete squad.

"I wish we could play six together but it is not possible. It is good for the club for all the competitions we have to play in this season."
