Everton manager Roberto Martinez has praised the 'flawless' performance of Gareth Barry during the Toffees' 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Goodison Park yesterday.
The Manchester City midfielder who joined the Toffees on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day, was offered his full debut and played a pivotal role in keeping the the Blues attacking unit at bay.
Martinez also insisted that Gareth Barry could play a tutorial role to some of the club's promising midfielders
He told Sky Sports News: "That was a master-class. You have to remember he has not played competitive football and that shows you how he is as a professional, working hard to keep his fitness up.
"Gareth is quite unique in his profile as a footballer and that is why are so delighted to have him at the club.
"He is a perfect influence for Ross Barkley and James McCarthy, but I though the partnership with Leon Osman was excellent. Gareth Barry was essential in keeping a clean sheet today."
Everton won their first match of the Premier League campaign.
