Gylfi Sigurdsson: 'I wasn't close to leaving Tottenham'

19 September 2013 - 14:17

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has admitted that he had never considered making a switch away from White Hart Lane during the summer transfer window.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The Icelandic International, who had attracted keen interest from Sunderland during the summer transfer window, has now to contend with the likes of Nacer Chadli, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela for a first team spot this season.

Sigurdsson told BT Sport: "I wasn't close to leaving. I came here to play for a big club. When I joined, I knew there would be loads of players and competition.

"You can either be unhappy and leave or look at it as a challenge. Hopefully you'll improve and fight for your place as you know if you do the right thing every day things fall your way and I'm hoping that will happen."
