Arsene Wenger: 'I will not play Jack Wilshere on Wednesday'

23 September 2013 - 13:18

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he will leave out Jack Wilshere for the Capital One Cup clash against West Bromwich at the Hawthorns on Wednesday.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The England International has had several fitness problems in recent seasons, but has been forced to ply his trade for the North London outfit on many occasions due to the club's injury crisis.

However, with the return of Mikel Arteta to the squad, Wenger admitted that he will not play Jack Wilshere against the Baggies on Wednesday.

The Frenchman told reporters: "Jack played now five games. Normally I should have rested him today but he did fight very hard and he was a bit exhausted in the end and that's why I decided to take him off.

"Certainly I will not play Jack on Wednesday, we have to rotate the squad because we play again on Saturday and after that we have a massive home game in the Champions League. On Wednesday I will of course rotate the team."
