Gareth Barry: 'Leighton Baines is a class act'

23 September 2013 - 13:33

Everton's on-loan midfielder Gareth Barry has labelled his teammate Leighton Baines as a "world class" player following his impressive brace which was crucial to the Toffees win over West Ham United on Saturday.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip

  • The talented left-back scored both of his goals from free-kicks as the Merseyside club came twice from behind to earn a 3-2 victory over the Hammers at Upton Park.

Barry told reporters: "I've seen from training with him at England and playing against him that Bainesy is a class act. You can put him in the world-class bracket when he's doing things like that.

"Two free kicks in exactly the same spot in different sides of the goal – there's not too many players in the world who can do that. He's not just got that ability to go forward and score penalties and free kicks, though.

"He's so solid at the other end as well and if you speak to Sylvain Distin I'm sure he loves playing alongside him for his defensive duties too. He's been very consistent for a number of years."
