Chelsea boss Mourinho backs Eto'o to show his best again

05 October 2013 - 07:32

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has backed Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o to bounce back and show his best form. The striker is likely to take some part in this weekend's Premier League match against Norwich at Carrow Road.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • With the Spain international striker Fernando Torres sidelined through suspension, Mourinho will call upon Eto'o to play against the Canaries. Eto'o has so far struggled to show the form that made him one of Europe's deadliest strikers, but Mourinho is keeping the faith in the former Anzhi forward.

"Normally when a top player goes to Anzhi the pressure goes down, the motivation goes down, and physical condition and sharpness goes down," said Mourinho.

"Now he's back in top European football he needs a bit of time to find that sharpness. He's playing a lot, he played over 80 minutes this week, he is getting his form back and understanding of where he is. The Premier League is a different picture. So give him a little bit of time.

"Players transform themselves with the years. They become stronger in some aspects, lose some qualities in others. For example, with me in Inter he was playing wide and came inside, very fast. I don't think can play the same way. He must be more static player, a pure No. 9. Players must adapt to their age, potential and condition."
