Sir Alex Ferguson set to return to management with Australia?

15 October 2013 - 09:02

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has urged Sir Alex Ferguson to come out of his retirement and take control of the Australian national side.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The Socceroos sacked their manager Holger Osieck following back-to-back 6-0 defeats to Brazil and France, and Bosnich believes Ferguson could be the right man to turn the country's fortunes, with the World Cup to come next year.

"We've been throwing around a lot of names but there's one person that I haven't heard mentioned - even though I've got more reason than anyone not to suggest him," Bosnich said.

"I'm just being honest and have had experience under him, so know what he's like - it is Sir Alex Ferguson.

"That name hasn't been put about, but we need someone of that ilk. He would command a top whack, but in life, and especially in sport, you get what you pay for. If you want the very best, you're going to have to pay for the best."

Ferguson who called time on a 26-year career with Manchester United, previously managed Scotland at the 1986 World Cup, but failed to help the side progress beyond the group stages.
