Man Utd midfielder Fellaini: Arsenal tried to sign me

29 October 2013 - 15:22

Marouane Fellaini could have ended up an Arsenal player had he not chosen to make a move to Manchester United instead. The Belgium international has sensationally revealed that the Gunners were amongst the teams in the race for his coveted signature.

  • Arsenal make surprise decision on Viktor Gyokeres
  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • In the end Fellaini decided to swap Everton for a move to Old Trafford to link up with his former manager at Goodison Park, David Moyes. But things could have been very different had the midfielder chosen to join Arsene Wenger's side.

It is understood that Arsenal had an offer rejected for the Belgian and instead decided to pursue other targets; with Wenger eventually settling on a deal to sign the then Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Fellaini spoke of Arsenal's interest: "I will not reveal the details, but Arsenal wanted me this summer. Manchester United convinced me. During the transfer window, there's always a list of players who are available to change clubs. You never know what's right. I only knew that Moyes was interested."
