Italian giants AS Roma are readying a January swoop for Everton defender John Heitinga, according to a report.

The 30-year-old Dutch international is yet to feature for the Toffees this season, and with his contract set to expire in the summer, a report from Italian newspaper Il Messaggero claims that the Capital club are keeping a close eye on the former Atletico Madrid man, with the future of defender Nicolas Burdisso under some uncertainty.<br />

Nicolas Burdisso in understood to be keen on leaving the club sooner rather than later, as he wants a return to his hometown club Boca Juniors after his nine year stay in Italy.<br />

Heitinga has also attracted interest from Fiorentina.
