27 January 2014 - 14:45

Ajax right back Ricardo van Rhijn has played down suggestions that he could be on his way to Premier League side Everton.

  • Gabriel Magalhaes to sign new Arsenal deal

  • The Merseyside club are little short on the right back cover with Seamus Coleman out with a hamstring injury and Tony Hibbert as back up. January 2013 arrival John stones has also had to play at the right back in last few matches.

Speculation had suggested that the 22 year old was on the toffees radar but that since been quashed by the player.

This is what van Rhijn told Amsterdam TV station AT5:

    "It's everywhere in the news.

"It would be nice if they are interested, but for now I am happy here in Amsterdam."

The Dutch international is contracted with Ajax till 2015 and has been in good form this season with two goals in 14 league appearances.

Even though he has lost his national team spot he is expected to be in the squad for Brazil.
