De Jong set for Newcastle medical

Dutch striker Luuk De Jong is set to have his medical with Premier League side Newcastle United today. The club were in for De Jong when he was on the books of FC Twente before he chose to join German club Borussia Monchengladbach.

  • De Jong has been fourth choice striker at Gladbach behind Max Kruse, Raffael, Branimir Hrgota and has only made 13 substitute appearances for the club.



    Newcastle themselves have been short of options up front with Shola Ameobi and Papiss Cisse only scoring one league goal between them. The future of on loan striker Loic Remy also remains in the air.



    This is what was posted on Borussia Monchengladbach’s official Twitter account:



    “Luuk de Jong (did) not train today with the Foals.” ”The attacker is just on the way to the medical check to Newcastle.”



    The 23 year old will join the North- East club on loan till the end of the season and the Magpies will have an option to buy him come the summer.
