Magpies confirm Dutch striker’s capture

29 January 2014 - 17:35

Premier League club Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Dutch international striker Luuk de Jong on loan for the rest of the season from Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach. The club were also linked with the striker while he was at FC Twente but he instead opted to join Gladbach.

  • Chelsea want to sign Alejandro Garnacho for £30m?
  • Chelsea agree deal to sign wonderkid for €40m

  • The former De Graafschap man will wear number 18 shirt and is eligible to play club’s next game which happens to be a local derby against sunderland.

This is what De Jong said to club’s official website,

"Newcastle is a great club and I have a good feeling about it,"

"I am very impressed with the stadium and training ground and have been made to feel very welcome by everyone I have met.”

The signing of 22 year will ease some of the striker worries that the Magpies are facing with Shola Ameobi and Papiss Cisse terribly out of form. On Loan striker Loic Remy is suspended for next three games following his red card against Norwich city.

De Jong had struggled in his time at Gladbach where he was the fourth choice striker for the club and only managed to conjure 13 substitute appearances so far this season.
