Liverpool to make bid for Jan Vertonghen?

02 March 2014 - 09:27

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will make a move for Belgium international defender Jan Vertonghen in the summer, but only if Tottenham are unable to qualify for next season's Champions League.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • Star defender Vertonghen has repeatedly told the media that he would be looking to quit White Hart Lane for pastures new if his club were unable to match his ambition and qualify for the Champions League.

The Belgium international has also been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months, but it is understood that Liverpool are hoping to bring in Vertonghen as Brendan Rodgers plans a major summer overhaul of his squad. Kolo Toure is expected to leave Anfield, whilst there remains some uncertainty over the long term future of star centre back Martin Skrtel.

Liverpool are ready to break the bang to secure Vertonghen's signing, with a reported 15 million bid having been prepared.
