Vertonghen slams Tottenham for lack of progress

18 March 2014 - 05:45

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has slammed his club for a perceived lack of progress this season. Tim Sherwood's side slumped to a 1-0 defeat to bitter rivals Arsenal at the weekend.

  • Chelsea urged to sign Man City star on free transfer
  • Chelsea squad want Xabi Alonso as manager
  • After the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, the Gunners' title defence appears to be in full swing but Tottenham's chances of Champions League qualification appear to be rapidly fading.

Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen, who has been linked with a move away from Spurs this summer, told reporters: "I do not want to look at the table anymore because the gap [to the top four] is very big.

"All four sides at the top are stronger than they were last year and we have stayed at the same level. If you see last season, then we did not improve.

"I think we do have the players to achieve Champions Leaguee qualification and I hope we can achieve it next year."
