Arsenal in last minute breakthrough for Sagna deal?

Arsenal are believed to have made serious development in their efforts to persuade French defender Bacary Sagna to stay at the Emirates Stadium. The full back's deal expires in June.

  • The former Auxerre defender has been locked in talks with Arsenal for over 12 months regarding a new contract, but so far Arsene Wenger has refused to offer a contract to the defender for longer than 48 months, whilst Sagna is believed to be pursuing a fresh deal for at least three seasons.

Despite Sagna's continued effort to sign a longer deal, many Arsenal fans presumed that Sagna would be heading for a Premier League rival this summer. Man City were amongst the teams interested.

However, it appears that there has been a major breakthrough, as Arsenal have seemingly sat down with Sagna for one last effort to reach a compromise on a new contract with the right back.
