Benitez plays down exit

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has attempted to calm the speculation surrounding his future after speculation appeared linking Benitez with a move away from the club. American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have reportedly fallen out with Benitez.

  • Benitez said: "As the manager of Liverpool Football Club, I know that the most important thing is the club and the supporters so I will keep talking about the game against Porto.

Goalkeeper Reina said: "The questions are being asked because you are press and we are players. We know how football works and it's normal that people will talk about things like that and not focus on the game.

"But for us, it's always the same story, we have to keep those comments out and show how good we are on the pitch.

"Of course we support him. It's strange to say something because he has been quite successful in the last few years and in my point of view it's normal that he wanted to improve the squad.

"I don't know deeply how it happened or what happened. We just maintain the calm and the manager is the most important person in that concern for us."
