Brede Hangeland has been released by Fulham and told reporters that he was to discover his fate only via an email from the club. The 32-year-old has been released following the Cottagers' relegation to the Championship.

Hangeland has been one of Fulham's longest serving players, but it appears that the West London club see no future for the Norway international.

"I was told of this decision via email," Hangeland said.

"This was without anyone from the club having met me beforehand to discuss my contract or my future with the club."
