Gerrard happy at CL situation

Gerrard happy at CL situation

29 November 2007 - 21:08

Steven Gerrard has said that he is happy that Liverpool are in a 'must-win' situation in order to guarantee their qualification for the Champions League last-16. Liverpool travel to Porto next week.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd interested in signing Aurelien Tchouameni
  • Gerrard confessed: "It's better that we have to win."

"It's better to know you have to win," said Gerrard, whose goal on the night equaled Michael Owen's European scoring record. "Sometimes when you know you only need a draw it can play on your mind and affect the performance.

"We know what we have to do now and that's go over there and win. But we're feeling confident, we're in good form and we're confident we can do what's needed.

"The most important thing tonight was getting the job done. We can play better but give them credit. Porto have quality players and are well organised, but once we scored the second goal they fell apart and we got the third and fourth.

"The fans are like having an extra man. They might not realise it but they make a big difference."
