Sami Hyppia has taken charge of Championship side Brighton and has penned a three year contract with the club. Hyppia was fired by Bundesliga giants Bayer Lervkusen in April.

  • Moving for Hyppia has been a massive coup for Brighton, who just missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season.

Hyppia has been given a large transfer budget as he looks to catapult Brighton to the Premier League in his first season in England.

Hyppia told gathered reporters after the announcement of the deal: "I've held extensive talks with the chairman Tony Bloom and chief executive Paul Barber.

"I have looked at the club from top to bottom and I am very impressed by what I've seen at all levels.

"The chairman is ambitious and for me that is absolutely key. "I am now looking forward to the challenge ahead and our aim is to take the club forward to the next level."
