Algeria qualified for the second round of the World Cup for the first time in their history after drawing 1-1 with Fabio Capello's Russia.

The Russians were hot favorites prior to the game but a spirited performance from Algeria ensured their progress.

An equalizing goal from Islam Slimani ensured the point needed to progress to the next round, where Algeria will take on Germany.
