Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 36.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • The Chelsea star made his return to Stamford Bridge this summer, after he left the Blues with 341 appearances and 157 goals to his name in 2012 to join Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua before he moved out to Turkish club Galatasaray for a season in 2013.

Drogba made his debut for the African country in 2002, and earned 104 international caps scoring on 65 occasions. He guided the Elephants to their first ever World Cup in 2006 in Germany and followed it up by qualifying for the tournament in 2010 in South Africa and the recently concluded edition in Brazil.

The two-time African footballer of the year is also the all-time top scorer for Ivory Coast and has also led his side to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations twice.

The Ivorians just appointed Frenchman Herve Renard as the new head coach last week, and will look to target the 2015 Cup of nations in Morocco without their star striker.
