Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he does not regret turning down the offer to re-sign Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona this summer.

  • The Spanish international, joined the Catalan club in 2011 after spending eight years with the Emirates Stadium outfit. But failing to establish himself as a first team regular at Camp Nou, the 27-year-old was forced to make a return to the Premier League when he joined English rivals Chelsea in a £30 million move at the start of the transfer season.

The Gunners had a buy back clause in their contract that allowed them to bring the player back to North London, but Wenger turned that offer down, thus enabling his move to Stamford Bridge.

Fabregas shone on his debut with Jose Mourinho’s team providing two assists in the Blues’ 3-1 victory over Burnley on Monday. However the French manager reiterated that he had no qualms over letting the player go to Chelsea, but admitted it was ‘strange’ to see him in a blue jersey.

“I have no regret about that [Arsenal not re-signing Fabregas] at all. My regret is that he left”, the 54-year-old coach was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"It was difficult for him to leave us, but after that you accept he can move to some different clubs."
