Arsenal show interest in Atletico defender

24 August 2014 - 03:04

Arsenal are understood to have shown desire to land the services of Belgian international Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid this summer.

  • Juventus and Napoli enter race for Chelsea winger
  • Felix Nmecha linked with Chelsea move
  • The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is well aware of the club's defensive frailties, and is keen on signing a top-class centre-back this summer.

Having sold Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona earlier this month, it is believed the club are in the market for a suitable replacement. According to The Star, Arsenal could be tempted to seal a deal for Alderweireld, who could be available on a bargain price of just £6m.

Alderweireld is understood to be considering his future at Atletico, having been left out by manager Diego Simeone for Spanish Super Cup second leg squad.
