Di Maria wouldn't have made a difference in WC final, says Low

Germany coach Joachim Low insists Angel Di Maria’s presence in the World Cup final would not have affected the result, despite the talented midfielder producing a match winning performance for Argentina in the international friendly last night.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Spurs, Gilchrist starts
  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs

  • The 26-year-old, who had missed the final in Brazil this year where his side went down 1-0 against a solid Eagles’ outfit due to a thigh injury, starred in the repeat of the game in Dusseldorf yesterday, creating three goals for the White and Sky Blues and scoring the fourth one as Gerardo Martino’s side beat the world champions 4-2.

But Low claims that his side would still have come out on the top even if Manchester United’s new £60 million signing had been a part of the Argentine squad.

“We would have beaten Argentina in the final on July 13 even if Di Maria had been playing”, the 54-year-old was quoted as saying by the BBC.

“He couldn't have beaten us on that day.”

Germany will now hope to make things better when they take on Scotland in their European qualifier on Sunday.
