Ronaldo move 'possible': Louis van Gaal

19 September 2014 - 18:45

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admits he might be interested in bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford but is convinced that Real Madrid would not sell their star forward.

  • The Portuguese international joined the Red Devils under Sir Alex Ferguson from Primeira Liga side Sporting CP in 2003. He made 196 league appearances and won eight major trophies with the The Theatre of Dreams side before he joined the La Liga outfit in 2009.

But the 29-year-old, who has had a highly successful last few years with the Spanish club, featuring in 252 games and scoring on 257 occasions, has been linked with a return to Manchester United next year after the Whites’ former President Ramon Calderon claimed that the player is ‘fed up’ with the transfer policies at the Santiago Bernabeu.

And Van Gaal further fuelled these rumours by admitting that a move for Ronaldo could be on the cards.

“Yes, but it's always a discussion in the papers, and I don't think the media shall buy Ronaldo”, the Dutchman was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

    “It is possible.

“That's what I have said with Falcao. Players like Ronaldo give a lot of extra to a team, but I don't think Real Madrid shall sell him”, he added.

Ronaldo himself made it clear that he felt strongly for the English club last month when he hinted at his interest in returning someday.
