Everton manager Roberto Martinez is keeping a close eye on the progress of Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang, according to reports from Italy this morning. The Toffees have deployed scouts to watch the 22-year-old twice in the last three months.

  • Arsenal & Chelsea want to sign ex-Forest midfielder
  • Chelsea set for massive double injury boost vs Liverpool

  • Obiang grew up at Atletico Madrid\'s famous youth academy before making a move to Sampdoria in 2008, where the 6 foot 1 midfielder has flourished. Appearing regularly in the first team since making his debut in 2010, Obiang has caught the eye and other Serie A sides have already made enquiries.

The Spanish under-21 midfielder is expected to one day appear for the full national side. With reports today suggesting that Man City are to make a bid for Everton man Ross Barkley; manager Martinez could be seeking a long term replacement for the England international Barkley with a move for Obiang. It is expected that Sampdoria will demand at least 10 million euros for their player.
