Manchester City join race to sign Jordi Alba

Premier League’s reigning champions Manchester City have joined in the race to sign Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba in January.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The Spanish international was a transfer target for neighbours Manchester United in the summer, and they have rekindled their interest in the 25-year-old.  English rivals Arsenal have struggled defensively so far into the season, and are also eager to secure the services of the Catalan player.

If reports in Daily Star are to be believed, Manuel Pellegrini is keen on beating these two clubs in bringing Alba to the Etihad Stadium as the Citizens look to strengthen their defence which has been deemed shaky by many.

The defender joined the La Liga club in 2012 after spending four years in Valencia’s senior squad and has made 76 appearances for the Camp Nou side since then.

Barcelona are fully aware of the money that the Sky Blues have at their disposal, but with the club unable to bring in any replacements until January 2016, due to FIFA’s transfer ban, Luis Enrique might not want to let go off any of the current players.
