Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has apparently given the green light to pursue the signature of one of the club's long-term targets.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has been on the radar of the Gunners since his time with Napoli.
The Express claims that the Uruguayan international is open to an exit from Les Parisiens during the winter transfer window, following manager Laurent Blanc's decision to place him out of position to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the striker's role.
"I really like the player," Wenger said. "I like his attitude."
"But I think he plays a bit with the hand brake on. I feel that he is not expressing himself fully."
It is also understood that the Gunners could strike a £55m deal to bring the player to the Emirates in January.
