The talented midfielder had been strongly associated with a move to Old Trafford over the summer, following the arrival of former Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal at the club.

However, United are now on the front foot to sign the former Inter star, who has not been paid for three months, thus putting his long-term future at Gala in doubt.

According to The Metro, the Mancunian giants are confident of signing Sneijder on a short-team deal at the start of the New Year.
