Serie A outfit Napoli have dismissed speculation of a move for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli in the January transfer window, according to Mediaset.

The Italian international joined the Reds from AC Milan over the summer, and many expected him to switch in as the perfect replacement for former striker Luis Suarez.

However, Balotelli failed to live up to his expectations and has yet to score a goal in the Premier League for Liverpool this season.

Recent reports had revealed that Napoli were interested in signing up the talented striker in January, but according to Mediaset, the club's sporting director Riccardo Bigon has rejected claims of such a move.

"It's a rumour told in Spain, England and Italy but I don't think it is a possibility," Bigon said. "Nothing of what has been posted is true."
