Arsenal are reportedly beating Chelsea in the race for Roma forward Mattia Destro, according to The Star.

The Blues have been long linked with a move for the Italian international, but the Star claims the Gunners have  opened up negotiations with the Capital outfit over the potential transfer of the 23-year-old to the Emirates in the winter transfer window.

Destro has scored four goals in five starts for Roma this season, and he could prove to be the perfect partner for Alexis Sanchez in the attack front.

The Gunners are currently sixth in the Premier League.
