The 23-year-old is currently plying his trade for Borussia Monchengladbach on a two-year loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen.

According to The Mail, the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen on signing a holding midfielder in the turn of the year, and consider the German star as one of his top transfer targets.

The report adds that the North London outfit are willing to pay as much as £20m in an attempt to lure the talented midfielder to the Emirates in the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal are also tracking Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin.
