Argentine defender Marcos Rojo could be heading for an exit in the January transfer window, according to reports from Portugal. It is understood that Benfica are amongst the teams interested in the 24-year-old, who spent a spell playing for Benfica's rivals Sporting Lisbon prior to moving to Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal decided to spend the cash to bring Rojo to Old Trafford but the defender has struggled with injuries and a lack of form and has thus not impressed the Manchester faithful. Rojo is therefore on the cusp of a return to the Portuguese league at a cut price 15 million euros, according to a Portuguese publication.
Rojo played in his homeland for Estudiantes and then moved to Russia to play for Spartak Moscow, before heading to the Portuguese capital Lisbon to play for Sporting. After two years there, and an impressive World Cup tournament for Argentina, United decided to make a big money bid for the player. Unfortunately he has failed to catch the eye, as predicted in several columns at the beginning of the season.
Benfica will also be competition for Italian side Napoli, with their manager Rafa Benitez also considering a move for the Argentinian.
