Liverpool confirm Steven Gerrard exit

02 January 2015 - 10:01

Liverpool have confirmed that legendary midfielder Steven Gerrard will leave the club at the end of the season.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • Recent reports revealed that the Reds are yet to negotiate a new deal with the club-captain, who is considered to be keen on a fresh challenge away from the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard has added to the announcement by insisting that he is happy to have got the chance to serve the Merseyside outfit for many years.

"This has been the toughest decision of my life, one both me and my family have agonised over for a good deal of time." He said.

"It is my sincere hope and wish that one day I can return to serve Liverpool again, in whatever capacity best helps the club. I'm going to carry on playing and although I can't confirm at this stage where that will be, I can say it will be somewhere that means I won't be playing for a competing club and will not therefore be lining up against Liverpool, that is something I could never contemplate."

Gerrard has scored 180 goals in 697 appearances for the club since his debut in 1998.
