Manchester United are planning a surprise swoop for Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin de Bruyne next summer, according to a German source.
The 23-year-old failed to cement his place in the first-team at the Blues and was sold to Wolfsburg for a reported fee of £18m a season ago.
According to German Sports daily Bild, the Belgian international is still highly regarded in Europe, and United boss Louis van Gaal will consider making a move for his services come next summer.
De Bruyne has scored six goals in 22 games for the Wolves this season.
