Arsenal are tracking the progress of Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani with a view to an offer for his services before the conclusion on the winter transfer window.
The 20-year-old is currently plying his trade on a two-year loan deal at Empoli.
The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has shown desire to strengthen his side this month, having already sealed deals for Krystian Bielik and Gabriel Paulista from Legia Warsaw and Villareal respectively.
It is not believed that Wenger is eager to sign up a young centre-back who could act as back-up in the heart of the defence.
Rugani has notched up 57 league appearances for Empoli since his loan move in 2013.
