It has been reported that both Chelsea and Man United have their eye on Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger. It is no secret that this German football star is coming to the end of his contract in 2016. Since it is due to expire in June, the future of this top player has been the subject of much speculation.
Reports from the Daily Express suggest that the German is on his way very soon. Although Schwinsteiger is now 30 he remains an exceptionally valuable asset to any team. Shortly after Germany’s victory in the 2014 World Cup, Schweinsteiger was appointed captain of his national team following Lahm’s retirement from the international scene.
He also has also consistently excelled with Bayern Munich since he joined the team back in 1998 as a young talent. 16 years later, this exceptional midfielder has picked up 7 Bundesliga titles, two League cups and has won the Champions league.
He has proved a very safe bet for the team throughout his career them as he is renowned for his versatile playing style which allows him to fluctuate between the centre and the wing.
Now that his legal ties to Bayern Munich will be severed in 2016, will the player really be prepared to leave the Allianz Arena after such a fruitful career with this team? All bets are off.
A source from Spain has claimed that extracts from his unpublished biography indicate that he is ready for a change. Indeed, it is reported that in this candid account of his life, he admits that he has achieved all that he can with Bayern and is ready for an international transfer.
With a player of this calibre, it is only natural that Chelsea and Man United are pricking up their ears at this news. However, the player is currently valued at around 28 million Euros so if both teams are serious about snapping him up they are going to have to fight for him. However, although, the star midfielder is still worth a lot, he is past his highest value due to his age. In fact, he was worth 40 million in 2011.
Bayern Munich must be less excited by the news and some already beginning to predict the impact this will have on the Bavarian side. However, this transfer is still very much a rumour; all of their predictions can only be highly speculative at this stage...
