Are Liverpool the favourites now to finish in top 4?

22 February 2015 - 19:02

When Liverpool finished second in the premier league for 2013-14 season, it was supposed to herald a new era at the Merseyside. Notwithstanding their great history in English Premier League and Champions League, Liverpool have been away in wilderness for quite long time. 1989-90 was the last time, they won the domestic title.

The loss of their talisman Luis Suarez to Barcelona was a huge blow. And then, losing Daniel Sturridge for long parts of the season made sure that Liverpool were not quite up to the challenge. Add to it the pressure of Champions League matches; suddenly, the Merseyside giants found themselves fighting to be in the top half of the table.

Brendan Rodgers was always hailed as a master tactician and this is where he was put to test. And, turn a corner, he did! As we approach the business end of the season, Liverpool is knocking on the doors of top four. Unbeaten since mid-December, Liverpool are now just 2 points away from Manchester United at fourth spot.

The run-in fixtures aren’t too demanding either with just 3 out of the remaining 12 fixtures potentially tricky – Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal. If Rodgers and his men can continue translating their belief to points, it won’t be long before we see Liverpool back in the top 4 for this season.
