United offer created the rift between Guardiola and Tito

01 March 2015 - 23:40

Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova are credited to be the architects of Barcelona dominance over the past 5 years.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The Catalan duo not only instilled a high-pressing tiki-taka football but also showed exceptional results to go along with it. So, when the pair spectacularly fell off, it was nothing less than a surprise.

Ex-Barcelona boss Charly Rexach says that an offer to manage United was the reason for the pair to start drifting off. Guardiola had an offer to manage the English giants once his sabbatical is over.

The well respected coach was certainly impressed with Old Trafford. The interest of Guardiola, the current Bayern Munich coach, in managing United is widely put forth as more than just respect for the club.

Tito took over as the first team coach from Guardiola after Pep went on the sabbatical. This is when the pair fell off and it culminated in the pair not talking to each other, even when Tito was in New York for his cancer treatment and Pep was living there at that time.

It could have been mere conjuncture that United offer to Guardiola is being pulled as the reason for the rift. It does prove the fact that United were interested to replace Sir Alex Ferguson with Guardiola. It remains to be seen if the interest could be revived any time in future.
