The old rivals are back at it

03 March 2015 - 11:09

Liverpool and Manchester United have been fierce rivals for quite a long time. There is a long history of animosity between the clubs that it spills to the players and fans alike. No wonder then that Sir Alex Ferguson's statement of knocking off their perch set the tone for United's stupendous success in the past decade.

  • Martin Keown praises complete Arsenal star after Bournemouth win

  • Things unravelled soon and Liverpool lost the mojo and was not in the reckoning for the EPL title (except for a rare one or two seasons). And last year's spectacular fall has seen United lose the marching advantage.

This season has unfolded after many dramas and we are set for a grand finale. Good news for the purists of the game that Liverpool and United are back at the heart of the battle. Bad news for their supporters is that they are fighting not for the title but for Champions League qualification.

Such has been the fall from grace for these two huge clubs that Champions League qualification is seen as a success. With United currently at fourth place and Liverpool behind by just 2 points, the stage is set for a battle to the last day.

Golden days of Liverpool and Manchester United fighting for the top honours will return some day. Till that time, sit back and enjoy their scrap this season.
