Manchester United have made a formal approach over the availability of Hoffenheim star Roberto Firmino ahead of the summer transfer window.
The talented midfielder had been in top form for Hoffenheim in recent seasons, and his performances have attracted interest from top clubs in Europe.
According to German sports daily Bild, United boss Louis van Gaal is believed to have sent scouts to watch the Brazilian attacker in action against Hamburger SV last weekend.
The report adds that the Dutchman has been impressed by the positive feedback and is ready to launch a summer bid for the player's services.
