Late Ronaldo beats Everton

Late Ronaldo beats Everton

23 December 2007 - 15:40

A late Cristiano Ronaldo penalty - his second of the game - gave Manchester United a 2-1 victory over Everton. Man Utd had dominated the game throughout and the winner cancelled out Tim Cahill's earlier effort.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Ronaldo got the Red Devils off the mark in the 22nd minute as he controlled a cross from Tevez from left, and cut inside along the vicinity of the 18-yard box before unleashing a left-footed curling shot that beat Tim Howard hands down.

Tim Cahill scored the equaliser in the 27th minute when he climbed above Red Devils defender Patrice Evra to head home, from the centre of the penalty area, after Steven Pienaar had whipped in a delightful cross from the left flank.

Man United were awarded an 87th minute penalty kick by Howard Webb as Pienaar tripped Giggs.

Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up and dispatched the ball into nets as the American keeper dived the wrong way, to bring full points to United and take his goals tally this season to 16.
