Liverpool and Arsenal have been in the chase for the player's services in recent weeks.

However, with Liverpool in a patchy form of late, a return to Europe looks a difficult task, with both Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur striving for the places.

According to The Telegraph, the former Villa star could snub the Reds, if they fail to provide him with European football next term.

It is also understood that Milner is keen on plying his trade at City, so long as he is guaranteed first-team football.

Milner's current deal expires at the end of the season.
