Cahill puts Everton to sword

Everton picked up a 2-0 win versus Bolton in the Premier League on Boxing Day through goals courtesy of Tim Cahill and Phil Neville. The win keeps Everton in sixth place one point behind Man City.

  • After a quiet start, Bolton had the first sight of goal in the 15th minute when Ricardo Gardner tried his luck from distance, but the full-back's shot was too high to trouble Tim Howard.

Arteta threatened five minutes later when he took Joleon Lescott's pass and drove forward before hitting a shot that deflected away for a corner.

Cahill was denied by a brilliant save from Jussi Jaaskelainen early in the second half, but the Bolton keeper was caught out moments later.

Neville's cross was heading towards Cahill but Jaaskelainen misjudged his run to catch and the ball flew straight into the net.

Cahill put the result beyond doubt in the 70th minute. Lescott crossed from the byline and the Australian found space to rifle home a fine strike.
