Stoke City are hopeful of signing up defender Glen Johnson ahead of league rivals West Ham United.
The England international has been tipped to make a switch back to his former club West Ham United following his release from Liverpool.
However, The Mail cites that Potters boss Mark Hughes is hoping to sign up the former Reds star by offering him a three-year deal.
Should Johnson make a move to the Britannia Stadium, he could be in line to face Liverpool in the opening day of the Premier League season.
